The Arboretum began offering free admission to active military members in 2019, inspired by the story of a longtime member who found solace and healing in the gardens after returning from military service during the Cold War.  “Morris Arboretum has long been a place for people to replenish themselves physically and mentally,” said William Cullina, the F. Otto Haas Executive Director of Morris Arboretum. “Our active-duty free admission program is our way of saying thank you and to provide comfort in a beautiful setting to those who give so much for our country. Morris Arboretum & Gardens Receives Grant From William Penn Foundation to Support ACCESS www.morrisarboretum.org/press-releases/william-penn-grant

… in Philadelphia that participate in the Harvey and Virginia Kimmel Family Fund ACCESS Program , a region-wide initiative administered by Art-Reach that enables affordable entry to cultural sites for individuals receiving public assistance for food or medical benefits. A grant was also awarded to Art-Reach to subsidize the ongoing costs of operating this important program. “We are deeply grateful to the William Penn Foundation for this generous support,” said Executive Director William Cullina. “This grant affirms our long-standing commitment to welcoming children, families, and individuals of all abilities and incomes to the Morris Arboretum & Gardens. With this investment, we can continue to offer meaningful, high-quality experiences that ensure everyone in our region feels they belong here.” The ACCESS program at Morris has grown substantially over the years. … in the 2023 Morris Motor Show.   Gendler organized the show as part of the Garden’s 90th anniversary celebration. It took place Saturday, July 15. The event was inspired by founders John and Lydia Morris's love of cars. They owned a 1912 electric vehicle, a Chrysler that was used on the grounds, and a chauffeur-driven Pierce-Arrow EDL that was special-ordered by Miss Lydia in 1927. Gendler, a member of the Delaware Valley Jaguar Club , was tasked by F. Otto Haas Executive Director Bill Cullina with finding one car for each of the Morris's nine decades. He got help from DVJC member Michael Wolf and the Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance in sourcing cars.   SPEED AND BEAUTY Image 1929 Packard 640 Phaeton The group determined the selections should demonstrate stylistic and technological advances as well as cultural expression for each era. Hamilton Fernery. Not all fern species have sori on the undersides of their fronds, but August is a good month to look at the leaflets of those that do; the position, size, and shape of sori is important information for fern ID (see left photo). And, while you are exploring, why not put on your citizen scientist hat and send an observation to iNaturalist?  P.S. Want to try growing ferns from spores?  Here’s a tip sheet  with easy directions, written by William Cullina, the F.
